Don't be Tardy for the Party

Fab readers we love to put together outfits on polyvore to test out different looks. This is one that we have been envisioning in our haute heads for a while now. We love the play of different textures and patterns and bringing traditional spring pieces into the fall season. Check out one of our fave looks that we have put together that have us ready to hit the streets. Let us know what are some of your fave pieces that you will be transitioning into the Fall season?

Jean Paul Gaultier next to design for Target

The collaborations with Target don't look like they are going to end any time soon and appear to be getting better and better. It was announced that Jean Paul Gaultier is the next designer to partner with Target to design a collection. Gaultier is the third designer behind Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui to design a collection for Target, who both did extremely well marketing to the mass market shoppers. Gaultier's collection is scheduled to arrive in stores (250 stores)
March 7 - April 11. Target stated the collection is one that we shoppers will love, as it "pays tribute to the American woman, celebrating the forces of style both past and present in American pop culture,"[wwd]. Our only question is how toned down will the looks be for Target or will he continue with his over the top fashions that he has become synonymous with.

With Fall here now it is time to start transitioning our wardrobe for colder weather and what better way to do it with corduroy shorts. Corduroy shorts are perfect for fall days when the weather is still warm but there is a crisp breeze in the air. These Marc by Marc Jacob shorts are perfect for the Fall weather, pair them with a pair of printed tights and boots and you are ready to go. These navy corduroy shorts were originally $168 and are currently on sale on The Outnet for only $63.20 (however we did buy a similar pair at H&M for only $10 on sale). So, if you have any label whores in your life that must be fly at all times and in all weather conditions, pick them up a pair here. And hurry!! These shorts are selling fast

Fab Faceoff: Kelly Rowland vs Amber Rose

Fab readers for this edition of Fab Faceoff we have two women that often times dress as different as day and night. However designer Pam Hogg has caught both of Kelly and Amber's attention with this daring catsuit. It seems as though both women were fans of the Fall 2009 Pam Hogg collection, while Kelly wore hers last week at MTV Los Premios Awards and Amber Rose wore her a few months ago at a Persona Magazine event. While the catsuits are slightly different in design and they are rocking it in two different colors we must ask: Who looked more fab?

Kelly gets our vote, something about it looks more wearable and all the accessories work for the catsuit (although she did loose points for the curly bang). Drop us a comment and let us know who won your vote.

Fab Song of the Week: Leona Lewis-Happy

Fab readers while we must admit we aren't the hugest fans of Leona Lewis (don't get us wrong, she can sing, she just doesn't interest us), however, we love Happy by her. It took a while for the song to grow on us but the video makes it that much better for us. Check out the video below and let us know what you think of the first release from her sophomore album.

The Highs and The Lows: Sperry Top-Sider vs. Charlotte Russe

With the weather finally beginning to feel like Fall here in LA we figured what better time to do a post on rainboots (because that's something we really need). While it's pretty much known that Sperry Top-Sider has the been the rainboot of choice for many, we here at Fabulously Chic and Cheap can't imagine spending over $50 for a pair of rainboots that will hardly every be worn. However we must admit that Sperry Top-Sider does have some nice designs including the Pelican Lug Boot. This boot, which features a black and white houndstooth design is currently on sale at piperlime for $68.00 (clearly we will be passing on this sale).

However if you love the style and not the price then Charlotte Russe has the perfect boot for you. Allow us to introduce you to the Plaid Rain Boots for only $24.99. This makes perfect since to us..why spend $68.00 for running around in the rain (makes no since).

Fab Song of the Week: Maxwell-This Woman's Work

Fab readers this is hands down one of our fave songs ever!!!!!! While having a discussion about Love and Basketball (one of our fave movies) the song was brought up, so we had to make it the fab song of the week. Check it out below.

Current Obsession: Melody Ehansi

We are currently obsessed with the latest collection from Melody Ehansi. Her jewelry can be seen on everyone from Rihanna and Keri Hilson to fashionistas walking the streets. Her in jewelry is very pow in your face and we love it (she has also introduced some cool shoes). While it's not the most affordable, it definitely is not the most expensive either. Our fave piece in the line is the Chain Pow Gun ring. This is what we call a statement piece!!! It's not to pricey, costing $75. Let us know what you think, click here to check out the rest of the collection.

QUEEN MATERIAL?

There has been a HUGE uproar on the Hampton University campus surrounding the 2009 non black Miss Hampton University, Nikole Churchill, a Hawaiian Senior at the University. Alum and current students appear to be divided on the issue. Students are saying that it's not so much the color of Nikole's skin as it is about the content of her character. Nikole Churchill is a transfer student to the University and does not attend the University's Hampton campus but instead attends a satellite branch of the Historically Black College. Students were also in an outrage because the Queen is not active in any campus organizations and to go a step further has rarely if ever been seen on campus!!! IS THIS the kind of Queen that you would want representing YOUR University to speak about change that needs to take place and advocate for student rights when she has never had the experience as a campus student on the University grounds? FAB readers we are flusters, not due to our attendance of HBCU's (one of us a former Hamptonian as well) but in this case, we are looking at the fact that is Queen Nikole as never had the experience of being a true Hamptonian. There are things that we have gone through, struggles overcome (such as registration and non air conditioned buildings and dorms), life long friendships established, football games and step shows attended, organizations joined, and leadership skills put into action on campus to earn our stripes at Hampton University. What if all Queens transferred in for their senior year took 4-11 classes and never walked the "yard" or campus?! Just had to get this off our our chest and give you some food for thought!!

Lara Stone does Blackface for French Vogue

Fab readers some of you may remember Lara Stone from our Fab Model of the Week post. However this week we have some not so fab news to post. It seems as though Carine Roitfeld and Steven Klein felt it was a good idea to have supermodel Lara Stone in blackface for the October issue of French Vogue. While many have argued that this is a portrayal of art and they are known for their controversial spreads, it is also known that blackface is deeply seeded with racism in the United States. While many say that since it was French Vogue so it doesn't carry the same meaning (racial tensions are high in France currently) the photographer Steven Klein is American so he knows the impact/backlash of doing a shoot of this nature would bring. Let us know what you think is it art or racism?

BTW- The issue that is dedicated to supermodels does not feature one African American model (or any model of color)

That's My President!!!!

Hey FAB readers!!!!! We had a few complications earlier this week but we are back. Since we have been unable to post since last week, we had to take the time out to give MAJOR praise to President Obama for being honoring with the Nobel Peace Prize!!!! We know that the news was Friday but listen, this is soooooooo HUGE that we have to do our own recognition!!!! Mr. President is the 3rd in office President to be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize. He was honored due to his never ending quest to bridge the international barriers that exist in the world today and his focus and dedication to making the United States actually one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all! Those are more than just words to Obama. He is doing EVERYTHING he can to make it reality. Everything about his presidency has been FAB! We are so happy to call President Obama and his family our First Family!!!!

Rihanna's Paris Fashion Week Style Review

Fab readers we ran across the collage of Rihanna's looks while in Paris for Fashion week at lovebscott, and we wanted to know which look do you all think she rocked the best. We are fans of the entire second row with Balmain being our fave (they can do no wrong in our book!!!) Let us know which one you love

Tao Okamoto for Vogue Nippone

A few weeks ago we did a model of the week showcase on Tao Okamoto and a few days ago we ran across some kick ass, super dope photos of her for the November issue of Vogue Nippon. Check them out below (yeah this spread has me ready to grow out my hair in 3...2...

Current Obsession:Alexander McQueen Knuckle Duster Multi Ring

OMG Fab Readers we have been super obsessed with the Alexander McQueen Knuckle Duster Multi Ring!!! Imagine throwing this ring on with a little black dress to turn up the kick ass factor. It is pure perfection in that opulent four is better than one kind of way. We have been waiting to see if anyone is going to knock this ring off (Hello girprops if you're reading this, this is your cue!!!) but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. And there is no way possible that we could justify spending $550 on a ring (even if we shared it). For now it is going to stay our obsession and we are going to continue checking for a knockoff, if anyone knows of one definitely let us know a.s.a.p.

Jordan Dunn and Chanel Iman for Teen Vogue

Check out the Uber-Fabulous spread of Chanel Iman and Jordan Dunn in Teen Vogue. The interview including everything from Jordan's unplanned pregnancy and how her mother took the news, to Jordan and Chanel barely speaking due to the competition amongst black models. Check out a snippit of the interview below (click here to view entire interview) and the spread from the interview.

Which brings us back to Chanel and the story she has to tell. "I could sit here and tell you, 'I love Jourdan! We've always been the best of friends!'" she says. "But we haven't. Until recently, we barely even spoke. We went from being superclose in the beginning," she says, "to dead silence if we saw each other backstage at a show." Not even a hello? "If we did say hi, it was hi, and that's it."

"It's competition," Jourdan says. "There aren't a lot of us, but instead of sticking together, we're pitted against each other. People will say things in Chanel's ear like, 'Jourdan is taking your spot,' and then they'll say to me, 'Don't trust Chanel.'"

A large part of the problem stems from the ridiculous idea that there's only room for one. Chanel says, "You're being told, 'So and so is only booking one black girl. It's either you or Jourdan,' So we'll be sitting in the lobby looking at each other like, 'Okay, I want this job, and she wants it too. Which one of us is going to get it?'"

"I remember last season," says Jourdan, "I was about to go into a casting, and my agent phoned and said, 'Turn back. They decided they don't want any black models.' I was like, 'They're actually telling you that's the reason? Are you serious?!'"

Models of Color Make Their Way Back on the Runway

After being whitewashed since Spring 2005, models of color are making their presence know once again at Rick Owens. For the Spring 2010 show at Rick Owens what was more talked about than the sculptural shoulderpieces; was the use of models that was chosen at his show. While it seemed to be an industry fact that Rick Owens was not interested in using models of color he shattered that myth by using four in this years collection. His show included models- Georgie Baddiel, Kinee Diouf, Aminata Niaria, and Rose Cordero. We are glad to see Rick Owen's show including ALL models now if only he can get the seating arrangements together (because it is never fab to double book seating and leave people standing during Fashion Week!!!).

The Highs and The Lows: Alexander Wang vs. Forever 21

Alexander Wang Carrington Boots
Fab readers we love the Carrington Woven Boots by Alexander Wang. While the Carrington boots are from the spring 2009 collection we feel that they make a great transitional boot into the Fall/Winter season. The Carrington boot features a chunky heel and a super high platform that is not for the faint of heart. While we weren't able to find out who still carries the shoe or the price, though we are sure it is out of our budget!!!
Forever 21 Kenzi Boots
While browsing Forever 21 we found a pair of Kenzi Perforated boots while not 100% similar, it was obvious that they drew influence from the Carrington boots. While the Kenzi boots are missing the outrageous platforms and chunky heels (that we love!!) the boots do carry a similar aesthetic to the Carrington boots for only $29.80.

A Fashion NIGHTMARE... Spooky

Hey FAB readers! Remember a few months ago when we posted an article regarding Lindsay Lohan becomeing Artistic Adviser of French Fashion House Emanuel Ungaro? Well Lindsay made her debut during Paris Fashion week. Lindsay has supposedly been advising designer Estrella Archs on the lines looks adn what direction teh looks to be going in. Well teh results are in from Paris and teh word on teh street is that the looks were "cheesy and dated." Style.com reported that the show was promising at first but quickly began to spiral downward and ended with a big PLOP at the end! After reading numerous reviews we the fashion jury have reached a verdict of Fashion Suicide to explain the looks that were debuted on that stage! Hopefully this won't send Lindsay back to rehab...stay strong girl... Everything isn't for everyone and apparently fashion advising was not what she was put here on Earth to do! Style.com attempted to give the line the benefit of the doubt by pointing out that Estrella Archs only had one month to pull the show together. If your are into drop crouched pants, sequins pasties, and draped silk jackets then this just may be a dream come true for you. But if not then we advise that you keep on looking for better selections from another line. Let give this a moment of silence as a critical DEATH has just occurred! We too must follow the lead of other bloggers across the globe and have this one the benefit of the doubt and just plan to keep Lindsay in our prayers, thoughts, minds and jokes... Tell us what you think, maybe we had sleep in our eyes when we looked through the photos.. Lindsay's look was also questionable :/

Runway... Pretty Preggers Style!

The beautiful British model, 19 year old, Jourdan Dunn hit up the runway in Paris for the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2010 Runway show. There were rumors spreading prior to the show that Dunn would not be taking part in the festivities due to her agency not being in agreeance (is that a word) of Jordan's participation but we have found the info to be false. Jourdan RIPPED the Runway looking nothing less than HAUTE. Attention was drawn the baby bump with matching circular banding complimenting her cone bra. We LOVE IT Jourdan! You are looking as HOT as ever! We are loving the fact that Jean Paul Gaultier didn't subject himself to the Lassie, Brady Bunch, and Leave It To Beaver days! Instead he took a stand and let Jourdan RIP the RUNWAY!!

The Highs and The Lows: Christian Louboutin vs. Dollhouse

Christian Louboutin Dillian Flower Pumps:$1695
Fab readers we have been obsessed with the Christian Louboutin Dillian Flower Pumps for months. The shoes are such a statement piece that you could literally put them on with anything. These shoes have been spotted on starlets including Khloe Kardashian and Brittney Spears and carry a hefty price of $1, 695. We have been patiently waiting to see if these shoes are going to go on sale but since they are only left in a size 5 and 7 we think it's pretty safe to assume they are going to stay at regular price.

Dollhouse Soliel:$54.98
No worries though Dollhouse heard the cries of recessionista fashionista's across the globe and have done their own version of the shoes. The Dollhouse Soliel Ruffle Pumps feature a ruffle design similar to the Dillian Flower Pumps and are on sale for only $54.98 at Love My Shoes. These shoes are a great addition to the closet that has it all. These shoes will definitely take your style to the next level, click here to shop.

Solange for Honey Magazine

This photoshoot for Honey Magazine was Fab to say the least, and the interview was great (click here to read) checkout the spread below and let us know what you think...our fave photo is the one in the shopping cart!!!
